1968 Leyland Beaver Steer BZE395

1968 Leyland Beaver Steer BZE395

One of the organisers - Mike Houghton with this beautiful Beaver Steer with on-board accommodation pulling out of the Gorge. These were a New Zealand special, starting out as a lwb Beaver but having a twin steer front axle fitted, and originally having a lazy axle on the back making it an 8x2, being 2' longer in the deck. They were known as Beaver Steers. Mike used to drive this truck hauling bags of oysters from Christchurch to places south. Some years back, he had a hankering to find out what happened to 'his' truck and found it neglected in long grass. He has restored to its former glory and always looks magnificent in any setting. It doesn't sound half bad either! (Howard Pettigrew)
