Kenworth W924SAR JJ2140
This model make look a little unusual to many eyes but is a special model built for Australia (with some finding their way to New Zealand). There is some argument about the meaning of SAR but the "KENWORTH Making History" book on page 40 says "Using this Australian concept, Kenworth in Seattle did all the design engineering on the truck and sent the specifications to Australia. Seeing they were on to a 'winner', construction got under way almost immediately on what was to become the W900SAR - SAR initially standing for 'Short bonnet A-series cab Right-hand drive'" but then on page 41 it says "The W900SAR was an instant hit with transport operators. And its technical acronym, 'SAR' now stood for 'Short bonnet Australian Right-hand drive'." Take your pick. I think the short bonnet was to overcome a length regulation at the time. (Howard Pettigrew)
