ENGINEERED FOR CROSS-COUNTRY MOBILITY
The 4x4 Bedford 'R' type chassis used many of the components of Big Bedford, S type models.
Proven Bedford power unit
Bedford 300 cu.in., 6-cylinder petrol engine, a power unit that had proved itself equal to any demands placed upon it for cross-country operation in the 4x4 chassis.
Sturdy chassis frame
Channel side members 9 inches deep are flat topped from the back of cab to rear end; Five cross-members. An extremely tough frame to tough assignments.
All-steel cab
The All-steel welded cab is basically the same as fitted to S Models. To compensate for the increased height of the cab from the road the headlamp position is modified by the use of a special adaptor plate.
FIRE APPLIANCE CHASSIS
This model was engineered for fire appliance work and includes additional features such as full power take-off and controls, pump drive-line to rear end; Bray engine heater; Heat exchanger for the cooling system and oil sump; Heavy duty electrical equipment and ignition suppression; Hand throttle control; The carburettor is replaced by one without a governor, and the air silencer by a plain tube.
