2VTG4R4355 ex-RTITB with the high datum cab, saved from an uncertain future in Lancashire and with a new owner in Devon where it was photographed on 5/11/13. Although a bit sad, and needing some TLC, it drove down to Devon with no trouble and has a new MOT. (John Corah)

Some V8 Mandators and the V8 Mammoth Majors had the high datum cab. The cab lift was introduced on the AEC to improve air circulation around the V8 to assist cooling, the airflow around this engine under the standard cab on the V8 Mandator being somewhat restricted. The high datum cab was denoted in the chassis number by the prefix 2, i.e. standard V8 Mandator VTG4R, high datum V8 Mandator 2VTG4R.
