A selection of vintage and veteran vehicles arriving at the finish of the second National Historic Vehicle Run from the Museum of British Transport at Clapham to Madeira Drive Brighton on Sunday May 5th 1963.

Photos courtesy of John Corah. Captions are drawn from from subsequent rally programmes as vehicle details in the 1963 programme are very brief. The advertisements are from the 1963 programme.

John writes ... "All these pictures were taken on Brighton seafront at the end of the London to Brighton HCVC Run in 1963, half a century ago and the early days of the preservation movement. All the entrants were pre-WW2 and many of this year's entrants would not have been built then. An age when the M5 and Spaghetti Junction did not exist, and practically every lorry on the (mostly) 'A' roads was British. The Ergonomic cab was still two years away, and half-cab buses were still being built."
