BBC Aerial Lorry by Merryweather

BBC Aerial Lorry by Merryweather

LLW604 was one of the first versions of the aerial relay lorries used for BBC TV outside broadcasts. Basically it is a Merryweather turntable ladder set rigged just to carry an aerial array perched atop an ex-military Ford WOT2 truck. The ladder control gear allowed it to go vertical, unlike when used for fire fighting. No electronics was carried on this, unlike the later coachbuilt versions (also by Merryweather) which carried all the electronics and control gear. (Aidan Fisher)

John Harrington ... Fleet number was F604. BBC used LLW601-25. 607 was new 5/50.
