The once mighty BICC (British Insulated Callender Cables) supertension cable works on Belvedere marshes employed hundreds and all looked rosy on a public open day in March 1997 when this former Kent machine was seen. However sale to Italian interests soon left yet another derelict site and redundancies and the end of Sir Tom Callender's works some ten years ago. (Allan Bedford)
